In the past also, there were great women fighters who tremendously contributed to the countries freedom struggle. Indian women are most courageous and here is some examples. 1. Arati Saha

Arati Saha, aged 19 that time, was the first Asian swimmer who crossed the English Channel. It was on 29th September 1959. Crossing English Channel, that separates southern England from northern France, is considered as a tough task with its choppy waters and cold temperatures.

2. Malavath Purna

Malavanth Purna was the youngest female to climb Mount Everest. It was on 25 May 2014. Purna was aged 13 years and 11 months when she climbed the World’s Highest peak, the Mount Everest.

3. Arunima Sinha

Arunima was a former Indian national level Volley Ball player. In a 2011 sad incident, she lost her left leg. Arunima was thrown away from the general compartment of a moving train by robbers and subsequently another train ran over her leg. She challenged these adversities and made a strong decision to climb the world’s highest peak. Arunima succeeded in her effort and became the first female amputee to scale Everest on 21 May 2013. No doubt Arunima is one of the Most Courageous Indian Women and inspire millions.

4. Indira Gandhi

Smt. Indira Gandhi was the first and only female prime minister of India. She was very courageous and no doubt that’s why she was voted as the Woman of the Millennium in a poll conducted by BBC News Online. In 1971 Smt. Gandhi went on to war with Pakistan and liberate East Pakistan now the Bangladesh.

5. Sarla Thakral

In 1936, at the age of 21, Sarla Thakral flew a Gypsy Moth solo and became the first Indian Woman to fly an Aircraft. She was also the first Indian woman pilot to attain an ‘A’ license.

6. Mary Kom

Mary Kom nick named as ‘Magnificent Mary’ is the only woman boxer who has won a medal in each of the six World Championships. She is an animal rights activist, and supporter of PETA India.

7. Neerja Bhanot

Neerja was the youngest recipient of India’s highest peacetime award for bravery, the Ashok Chakra. She was the flight attended of the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73. Neerja was shot at point blank in the head while helping passengers escape through the emergency exits. The incident took place during a stopover of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan,on September 5, 1986. No doubt her name should be there on the top of the list of Most Courageous Indian Women.

8. Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla was one of the seven astronauts who lost their lives in the disaster of the Columbia Space Shuttle on February 1, 2003.  She was the first woman of Indian origin in space.

9. Bhakti Sharma

Bhakti Sharma is the youngest in the world and also the first Asian woman to set a record in open swimming in Antarctic waters. She has swam in all four oceans – India, Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic.

10. Rani Lakshmibai

The legendary Rani Lakshmibai or Jhansi Rani was the queen of the princely state of Jhansi. She was one of the leading figures in India’s struggle for independence. When the British tried to annex Jhansi to its rule, Rani assembled a strong army and fought bravely with the British. Rani martyred (in 1858) her life for India’s freedom. In the British report of this battle Rani is described as “the most dangerous of all Indian leaders”.
